About This Service
I offer a bespoke Specialist Dyslexia tutoring service which meets the individual needs of the student. Each child is different and works at a different pace. A Dyslexia Assessment Report provides guidance and detail about which areas of learning need to be supported. If your child does not have a formal diagnosis, I would undertake some assessments to determine the tutoring programme. I would also complete what is called a 'placement test' to determine where your child would start on a tutoring intervention. Response to Intervention (RTI) is measured during termly reviews. I use a multi-sensory, structured approach, supporting holistic development and attainment in reading, spelling and writing. There are different areas of your child's learning profile which will need support; a combination of lesson activities will target your child's needs. Cognitive difficulties: - Working memory - Processing Speed - Vocabulary - Executive functioning I would be looking for improvements in processing of information, recall and organisation. Attainment difficulties: - Phonological Awareness - Reading - Spelling - Writing I will be looking for improvements in alphabetic knowledge, phonics, blending, segmenting, spelling and reading fluency. Every session involves a 10 minute writing task as part of the routine; over time, with repetition, this builds writing skills, structure, punctuation and grammar skills. I am a British Dyslexia Association and Toe by Toe UK Tutor; with extensive experience in supporting children with learning difficulties both as a qualified teacher and SENCO. I am registered with SASC, the BDA and PATOSS. It is important that children with Dyslexia receive the specialist support needed, rather than a general tutor who is not qualified in this role. I book tutoring sessions in blocks of 5 to ensure that there is consistency for my students. Most students have interventions for 10-20 sessions depending on their level of need. Face to face tutoring builds good relationships and allows for a fully multisensory delivery of the intervention. Face to face lessons can happen at your home or my office in Corsham, depending on availability. An online option is available if too far to travel.
